About the artist
Camelia Pham, a gifted illustrator from Hanoi, imbues her artwork with rich symbolism that narrates the tales of her subjects. With a Bachelor of Fine Arts in graphic design from Italy's Accademia di Belle Arti di Frosinone, Pham's journey in the arts was ignited by her grandfather's influence and her innate passion for drawing.
Initially considering a business degree, Pham soon realized her true calling was art. She pursued her dream, completing a master's program in Rome before opting to gain practical experience over theoretical knowledge. Her career took flight upon returning to Hanoi, where she worked as an art director for an animation company and as a freelance illustrator for various American magazines and Hanoi's local brand, TiredCity.
Pham's work is inspired by the compositions of Rune Fisker, the conceptual art of Henn Kim, the bold hues of Jor Ros, and the intricate designs of Núria Tamarit. Among her favorite projects was the 100 Women project, which allowed her to delve into Vietnamese history and culture, creating illustrations that celebrated the nation's renowned women.
Her ideal workspace is a secluded area with ample light, where she can work undisturbed. Pham's approach to illustration is thoughtful and deliberate, ensuring every element in her work contributes to a cohesive narrative. Her use of color and structured composition are distinctive hallmarks of her style.
Looking ahead, Pham aspires to establish a stable client base that will support her as a freelancer, enabling her to work on personal projects and enjoy the flexibility of location independence. For Pham, drawing is essential to her well-being, a compulsion that drives her to create and find satisfaction in her craft.
